President’s Message

Greetings to all our Culver City Historical Society members! As we move into summer, I’d like to acknowledge the great relationship between CCHS and students from C.C. High School. Over the last several years, CCHS has had an outstanding intern program for students who must complete their community service hours. This highly successful program is the brainchild of Hope Parrish.

Twice a year, our staff sets up a table at the High School’s College and Career Fair. Many students come to our table to learn about our organization. It’s wonderful to meet young people so interested in local history, film history, and just history in general! Over the years, we have had some fantastic interns. Two interns did a program for the 100th anniversary of the Culver Hotel, and another wrote a walking tour guide to Downtown C.C.

This year we are saddened to lose three graduating interns who are moving on to four-year universities: Samanta (UC Santa Cruz) and Hailey (UC Berkeley) volunteered for two years. Sophia (Ave Maria) interned for four years! Projects they worked on include: researching and creating museum display boards, being instrumental in our costume conservation day, and writing an article for this newsletter. We send them all off with good wishes for the brightest of futures!

We have been fortunate to bring in several new young adult volunteers with a variety of talents and skills. Each contacted CCHS due to their interest in archives, film history, research, and costume conservation. They’ve helped man our booths at Screenland 5K, the Culver City Book Festival and the Culver City Car Show.

Through their volunteer efforts, they are gaining skills and knowledge invaluable to our work. Together with the Board members, we work hard to provide interesting historical displays and resources accessible to all. I hope to see you at our upcoming July program!
