Movie studios, including Thomas Ince Studios, Hal Roach Studios, MGM, Selznick Intl. and Sony Pictures, play a starring role in our local history. The Archive contains multiple file drawers full of catalogued, historic studio 8×10 photos. These include pressbooks, set photos, star photos and publicity/marketing photos. In addition, important events are pictured, such as “key-to-the-city presentation awards with studio heads and entertainment celebrities.
Also on exhibit is a sterling silver serving tray presented to Thomas Ince by grateful employees as a Christmas present in 1922 and used at his private events. Displays of memorable movie icons who created their reputations in our city include Our Gang and Laurel and Hardy.
