Robert Welch, the grandson of MGM’s master of special effects, presents an amazing look into what went into creating the eye-popping visual effects of more than 180 movies. His grandfather, A. Arnold “Buddy” Gillespie, was a master of both art and technology, and served as head of the special effects department for four decades, earning 12 Oscar nominations and four Oscars.
Mr. Welch will showcase many of the secrets that are revealed in his grandfather’s memoirs “The Wizard of MGM,” including the epic effects in some of your favorite films like The Wizard of Oz, Ben Hur, Forbidden Planet, and Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo.
