This is a very special year for our friend Katherine. She not only turned 90 on June 18, but Katherine also celebrates her 75th year here on June 18, 1951, when she came to America, and then to Culver City. Katherine and her brother Albert each immigrated from Italy at the age of 15. (Albert had come earlier.)
Katherine met Santino Barriciello; they married and settled in Culver City. In 1963, Albert, Santino and Katherine together opened an Italian market in a little storefront for rent on Sepulveda. Sorrento Italian Market has now been a Culver City institution for over 60 years.
Santino worked as a Property Master at Columbia Studios (later Columbia-Tristar, then Sony) until he retired. Their four daughters Anna, Lydia, Lena and Alice were all born in Culver City and raised in the Sunkist Park neighborhood.
We celebrate you, Katherine, for all you’ve brought to our community. Tanti Auguri di Buon Compleanno, Katherine!
