Historical Hightlight: Culver City Police Cars

Over the past few years, we have been asked this  question, “When did our Culver City Police department change our vehicle colors from Blue and White back to Black and White”.  Well, we found  the answer.

Dennis (my Dad) found a newspaper article written by Melinda Tonks in May of 1975:

“Black & White police cars are making their return to patrol duties on Culver City Streets. The change from the Police department’s blue and white units of recent years has been necessitated by the formation of a new bureau to upgrade  the city’s traffic enforcement program. The State of California requires that such traffic enforcement units use black and white or all white cars. So, the departments newest patrol cars have been delivered with a black and white paint job. To avoid confusion over having cars with different color schemes and so they can also be used interchangeable for patrol and traffic work, the existing blue and white units are gradually being repainted to the new format.”
