Arnold “Buddy” Gillespie was in charge of the Special Effects team at MGM starting in 1925. Think “The Wizard of Oz”, “30 Seconds Over Tokyo, “Tarzan”, “Ben-Hur”, “Mutiny on the Bounty” and you’ve seen his pioneering work all accomplished without today’s CGI effects.
